Punakaiki

In Marahau I met a girl named Annemarie from Holland, also traveling on her own. We decided to go to Punakaiki  together. Punakaiki is the home of the Pancake Rocks (giant stacked rocks that become blowhole type vessels during high tide).

While we were waiting for high tide, we decided to walk a little trail along the river

Pancake rocks!

it was so difficult for me to not pick up any of the beautiful rocks (not very practical for a backpacker to walk around with a pack full of rocks)

the last day I was there I visited the river again, climbed on top of a fallen tree, listened to music and swung my toes in the water for some time- it was great.
